Rifts have appeared in the alliance between Cisco and Newbridge Networks after the latter?s acquisition of Ungermann-Bass.
A Cisco representative today confirmed that there was to be a change in the nature of the agreement. ?We will continue to support the IOS line in the UB Geolan products,? he said. ?The reselling of Cisco gear is what has been continued.?
He said that Cisco worked with its IOS partners to design and implement industry standards and would only do so.
Trevor Dearing, network product manager at Bay Networks, said: ?This is more to do with Newbridge?s acquisition of UB than standards. If you are a UB or Newbridge customer, it?s going to cause confusion and we will have to wait to see what the wider implications are.?
