Microsoft will this week firm up its plans for its CE software platform when it unveils its Griffin OS to consumers at the ECS show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
It will say it plans to attack its major competitor IBM with an equivalent of the Palm Pilot with Casio, said Nigel Parry, MD of UK distributor Portable Add Ons.
He said: ?Microsoft will show some early colour machines but Casio will be the first to come out with a Palm Pilot clone.?
He added that other manufacturers are likely to follow suit with machines which will have a similar shape to the Palm Pilot.
The 3Com Palm Pilot is a success story in the organiser market and Microsoft and its CE partners are likely to want a share in that. That means it is likely that Compaq, LG and the other CE hardware manufacturers will also produce similar units.
Other announcements in the show were expected, including CE Griffon elements which fit into cars and handheld CE devices aimed at the games market, he added.
