Nortel opened a #20 million research and development laboratory in Harlow, Essex last week to house 450 engineers working on next-generation networks.
They are working on next-generation ATM, optical backbone and access technology like VDSL and satelitte communications. There are 1,300 people in total, all working on telecommunications and network design, advanced software, radio technology, 10 Gigabit and further development on Digital Power Line technology, among others.
