Electric Mail is about to launch a corporate intranet backbone in association with Xara Networks which claims to allow corporates to link all its users to a single, secure, fully managed, fire-proofed system.
The system, called Siena, will offer nationwide private dial access, 28.8Kbps and ISDN support, full user control and statistics and 24x7 network support. All remote sites using Siena can be connected over the backbone which the company hopes to launch in the first quarter of 1997.
Users will be able to access the Internet over the backbone either with or without full Internet access which can be controlled via Electric Mail.
The company's founder and MD Andrew Glen has promised that if users wish to set up intranets on a "try before you buy" basis, he will accommodate, even if it's for a single system.
