Just a week after NT 5 was renamed Windows 2000, IBM will present an IDC survey at the Windows NT show today that suggests 89% of companies will be using NT within a year.
However, 80% of these sites will maintain multiple operating systems and NT growth appears to be restricted to new applications, with 61% of respondents having no intention of migrating existing applications to NT.
IBM's recent results showed growth in sales of its Intel platforms but it is feeling pressure from direct vendors like Dell. As a result, it is planning a scheme to allow its largest customers to buy direct, its EMEA general manager Doug LeGrand told PC Week.
