Dell is to launch a 15in screen notebook later this year - the biggest screen ever on a mainstream corporate portable. The new Inspiron 7000 range will feature machines with 13.1, 14.1 and 15in screens. The 15in display will be sourced from Samsung. In order to keep the weight below nine pounds, the larger screen will be housed in the same chassis as the smaller units, creating a quarter-inch lip around the edge of the machine. The 7000 series will offer features such as a 24-speed CD-ROM drive, DVD option with MPEG 2 encoding and a 56K modem. Pricing for the new models, expected to ship in October, has not yet been announced.
