We look at Web growth in western Europe, how white box sales are rising and find that upgrades and IT skills improvement are SMEs' new buzz activities. We also find the IT spend of SMEs is stable.
YEAR OF THE INTERNET
Last year saw a tremendous growth in Internet penetration in western Europe. The total number of users almost doubled from the beginning to the end of the year. But the proportion of users that buy online is still small.
WHITE HOT SELLERS
As resellers look back on the first quarter of 2000, strong sales of white-box systems are likely to be a feature. As the quarter began, 44 per cent said white boxes were their best-selling brand.

IT SPEND STANDS STILL
Small businesses surveyed by CRN US devote a high proportion of their IT spending to hardware and only a little over a quarter to software. Many also expected overall spend to stay the same this year, rather than increase.
