A new Internet Developer Toolkit from Powersoft is expected in the UK by the end of the month. This will let developers create and deploy Powerbuilder applications for the Internet and corporate Intranets.
The toolkit bundles point-and-click wizards, HTML controls, sample plug-ins, and controls for ActiveX. By using the Powerbuilder web.pb tool and Powerbuilder Window Plug-in, users will be able to run current Powerbuilder applications in a Web browser.
Web.pb allows the use of HTML to access dynamic data on databases. It acts as a gateway to the network and runs on the server so that it can be used via any browser that supports HTML 3.
Also part of the kit is the Datawindow Plug-in and Control for ActiveX, which presents database information, and Website 1.1 from Reilly & Associates, a 32-bit multi-threaded Web server for NT 3.5 (or higher) and Windows 95 platforms.
Powersoft is also planning to optimise its third generation language tool, Optima++, next year, with tools for developing Java applets. It is also expecting to announce a full design studio for creating Web sites by the first quarter next year. Net Impact Studio will allow developers to graphically create Web sites by giving them access to dynamic data on back-end databases. It will follow hard on the heels of Microsoft's revamped Internet Studio, which will be launched next week.
The Internet Developer Toolkit is an add-on product for Powerbuilder. It will cost about #69 and should be available in the UK within two weeks.
