Apple is planning to reveal a new tablet called the 'World iPad' in the coming months, according to reports.
Brian Blair, an analyst at Wedge Partners, is quoted on AllThingsD as saying that the new iPad will be equipped with GSM and CDMA hardware, allowing it to be used on both types of mobile broadband network.
Combining the two standards would allow Apple to offer a 'world' device that could be used across any network.
"Recent checks suggest that Apple is going to be reducing production of the existing 3G iPad over the next two months in anticipation of a new 'World iPad' powered by Qualcomm and running on GSM and CDMA based networks around the world, " said Blair.
The new iPad will also feature a thinner case using a process similar to the 'unibody' construction in the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.
If the report is accurate, the new iPad could arrive at the same time as the anticipated announcement of a new carrier for the iPhone.
Multiple reports have indicated that Apple is preparing to make Verizon the second official iPhone carrier early next year with the release of a handset designed to work with the company's CDMA network.
