The new suite will intensify competition with SAP's All-in-One and Oracle's JD Edwards and PeopleSoft products, according to Jeff McKee, director of global product management at Microsoft Dynamics AX.
"As we move up the market and they move down market, there's going to be more and more of that overlap," McKee told vnunet.com. "We view this as a three-horse race in the long term."
However, Albert Pang, research director for enterprise applications at IDC, said that Microsoft's ERP suite will require more industry specific functionalities to gain a broad customer base if it wants to compete with Oracle and SAP.
The application also has to break with the image of being a European product, and add customers in the US.
"It is going to require a lot more evangelising from Microsoft and its partners to add more credibility to the product," Pang told vnunet.com.
The suite is available now in the US and Canada. Other countries are set to follow later this year and early next year.
