3Com set up a home networking business unit this week, days after arch rival Cisco laid out its consumer networking plans.
Over the year 3Com plans to unveil a range of products under the Home Connect badge. The 1Mbps phoneline networking products will be based on a recently completed Home Phoneline Networking Alliance (HomePNA) 1.0 specification.
3Com set up the alliance with IBM, AMD, AT&T Wireless, Compaq, Hewlett-Packard and Lucent last June to develop specifications to link information devices around the house.
