A source at UK company Elonex said today it was interested in using the Media GX chips from Cyrix, which Compaq has included in a Presario machine. Brendan Sherry, European managing director at Cyrix, said that was news to him. He said his company had talked to six major PC companies in Europe but so far the only official design win was Compaq.
Elonex uses non-Intel chips in its machines, notably in its sub-#1,000 Kayak server, which includes hard drive and monitor. That uses an AMD processor.
