European business telecomms provider, Esprit Telecom, is extending its London and Paris network to Belgium.
The company will use the basic fibre optic facilities of Belgium's national rail operator to transmit services to its customers. Esprit will also be the first independent telecomms company in Belgium licensed to sell voice services nationwide and interconnect its services with Belgacom, the country's incumbent operator.
The deal follows the award of a UK PTO (public telephone operator) licence to Esprit. Graham Halls, the company's UK managing director said it already operates a synchronous digital hierarchy network bwetween London, Reading and the west country.
