School children will be disappointed if they expect to get network computers in their Christmas stockings.
Acorn, which is organising the reference platform for the Oracle NC spec, has agreed there are unlikely to be volume shipments through its part-owned subsidiary NChannel until early January.
Kevin Coleman, corporate affairs manager at Acorn UK, said: "The NC is not delayed. We?ve built some and sent some to customers for two to three weeks. We are producing the reference platform and not selling them directly. It?s not late as far as we?re concerned."
But he said Hermann Hauser?s company NChannel had not completed its original launch schedule. "Nchannel has put its plans back to January. We?ve shipped them into the trade. Ours are being manufactured."
The delays highlight problems with NCs. Last week, Sun admitted its chip-driven cheap devices will not emerge until this time next year.
