Symantec has added the Web Gateway security proxy tool to its Protection Suite Enterprise Edition.
Web Gateway 4.5 allows users to scan incoming and outgoing traffic for security threats and malicious activity. Symantec acquired the software earlier this year when it bought Mi5 Networks.
The security giant hopes that the addition of Web Gateway will help bolster protection for the entire Protection Suite Enterprise Edition package, particularly web applications which have been increasingly targeted by cyber criminals.
Symantec also noted that the tool scans traffic in real time, rather than delaying traffic while scanning.
"The combination of Web Gateway with our endpoint security, messaging security and system recovery technologies in one suite gives administrators comprehensive protection with much greater manageability," said Francis deSouza, senior vice president of Symantec's enterprise security group.
"Symantec Protection Suite also reduces the costs of securing a customer's environment so that they can focus on effectively managing those risks that are inherent to their IT infrastructure."
The company said that the new tool is available immediately through its reseller and distributor channels as part of the Enterprise Edition suite.
