Amazon.com has agreed to acquire Livebid.com, a live event online auctioneer, to boost its fledgling Internet auction site.
The online bookseller moved into the auction business in late March when it launched a person to person online auction service to compete with eBay's offering.
The new purchase includes the Seattle based company's realtime software, which enables auction houses to hold live event auctions, and is expected to close this quarter.
