Rebellious Dutch ISP Xs4all has been bought by the Netherlands' dominant telecomms operator KPN.
Xs4all is currently involved in a court battle with the Dutch government over its refusal to snoop on one of its customers who was under police investigation (see Newswire 20 November).
But the ISP said the deal with KPN will not affect its ethics. "This agreement is unique because XS4ALL will maintain all its operational freedom and social involvement," the company said in a statement.
Under the deal, XS4ALL will become an independent subsidiary of KPN Telecom and not a part of the KPN Telecom organisation.
Both XS4ALL and KPN Telecom are preparing the introduction of high bandwidth Internet access for customers in the Netherlands.
