French ministers ended months of speculation surrounding the ownership of the national telco, France Telecom, yesterday, announcing plans to sell off 20 per cent of the company under an initial public offering.
There will also be a 7.5 per cent stock swap between France Telecom and its German counterpart Deutsche Telekom to further cement their relationship in the Global One multinational services venture.
However, the decision leaves the telco under state control. French finance minister Dominique Strauss-Kahn said: ?France Telecom will remain a state concern. France Telecom is the fourth largest [telecomms group] in the world. Our goal is to keep it that way or improve on it.?
