Motorola has donated $5 million to the Massachussetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to help fund the development of labour saving kitchen devices.
The money will be used to set up Motorola's Digital DNA centre within MIT's Media Lab and engineers will design applications such as intelligent labels for clothes that can tell washing machines which cycle to use, and dishwashers that can share information with other appliances about noise levels and energy usage.
