The chief executive of Cable & Wireless took home a whacking #1.24 million in earnings last year, it emerged yesterday. Richard Brown, who became chief executive a year ago, earned a basic salary of #487,500. This was boosted by a #438,100 performance-related annual bonus, and allowances and benefits of #318,162.
For this, Brown helped set up Cable & Wireless Communications, the merger of the cable affiliates of CW, Nynex and Bell Canada, and pulled out CW from a commercially risky venture with Veba of Germany.
