An auction in Qatar has smashed the previous record for the amount of money spent on a mobile phone number.
A private bidder paid £1.5m for 666 6666 following an hour-long bidding session with nine other potential buyers.
The previous record price for a phone number was made in China, where 8888 8888 sold for £270,000.
The 666 6666 auction was held in Doha by Qtel, Qatar's exclusive telecoms provider. The bidder's identity was not revealed. Proceeds from the auction will go to charity.
