French government confirmed today that is following up complaints from consumers who maintain it is impossible to buy a PC without Microsoft Windows 98 software.
The ministry headed by Dominique Strauss-Kahn has ordered a preliminary enquiry into the situation, but at present it does not think it will merit an anti-trust trial.
“We have had complaints from consumers who do not want Microsoft Windows when they buy a PC and we are looking into it,” said a ministry spokesperson.
The ministry decided to go public on the enquiry after it was leaked in the French newspaper Le Parisien.
