The UK's mobile operators' call charges abroad are too expensive, accordingto a high-level European Union (EU) commissioner.
Mario Monti, the EU competition commissioner, said that several UK and German mobile operators were fleecing customers with high call charges when they are abroad.
"The commission has discovered that some operators are blatantly overcharging. We will interfere with this matter soon in order to prevent the operators from abusing their customers by charging people travelling abroad sky high prices," he said.
Monti called for an EU-wide roaming tariff to be created, an idea that hasthe backing of EU enterprise commissioner Erkki Liikanen.
