Tibco has launched its Silver Spotfire software designed to democratise the use of business intelligence (BI) in the enterprise by allowing anyone to create, publish and share custom dashboards or reports via the cloud.
Tibco Silver Spotfire enables business teams to build and share reports, dashboards and charts, and perform other visualisation and calculation tasks, in order to create a "robust analytics" knowledge base, the firm said.
The company explained that the tool can be integrated with social media, allowing users to distribute analytical knowledge by embedding live dashboards into business blogs and online articles.
Spotfire ties in with Tibco's move away from static databases and reports to real-time analysis, and can be integrated with minimum set up, according to Tim Wormus, product marketing manager at the vendor.
"Spotfire allows clients to find and analyse information quickly, making it easier for analysts to get information on a day-to-day basis," he told V3.co.uk.
"Our users have been using Spotfire in meetings in place of programs like Excel and PowerPoint. Spotfire allows them to query data and carry out real-time analysis and collaborate with partners intuitively."
The software incorporates Ajax web development tools to allow users to create apps so that Spotfire can be used on mobile devices including the iPhone and the iPad.
Monthly hosting fees have yet to be confirmed, but will be competitive because Tibco expects the highest uptake in the midmarket. A free 12-month trial of the software is also available.
BI and analytics vendors are increasingly using cloud and mobile platforms to deliver services.
Phocas recently launched Phocas Xpress, a browser-based version of its Professional Suite designed to give users access to the toolset on the move, while Sage released its Sage 200 2010 suite in conjunction with RIM to provide access to BI, customer relationship management and financial data on the move.
