Dial-up gaming network Wireplay has added a custom-built version of Backgammon to its Mind Games channel.
In addition to the classic game, Wireplay Backgammon also includes Domino Backgammon, which heightens the level of competence required.
?Wireplay is the perfect environment for Backgammon enthusiasts, irrespective of their ability,? maintains Keith Silver, head of intellectual games for Wireplay.
?Although Wireplay caters for both casual and serious players, Backgammon is one of the few games where a complete novice can win the odd game against an expert, which adds to the game?s appeal and interest,? he added.
Like all the games on the Wireplay channel, Backgammon is ?joinable?, allowing spectators to join a game in play and watch to gain confidence before entering a match.
Michael Crane, director of the British Isles Backgammon Association, maintains it is the most realistic computer interface of the game he as seen. ?It has first class look and feel,? he said.
Wireplay users pay for time spent online either on a "pay as you go" basis, charged to the standard BT phone bill at 2.5p per minute or through various subscription options which cost #9.95 per month with calls at local rate. Wireplay currently has 50,000 registered users in the UK.
