IBM has denied it will cut prices on a range of RS servers towards the end of the month. John Barnes, who runs the platform for IBM Europe, said there will be cuts this year but he expects them to come later.
He said: ?It?s not true. We?re certainly looking at price cuts but there?s nothing specific happening in the next two weeks. We announced the 604e in October and started shipping it at the end of last year. We?ve got other chips coming down the line.?
He said that IBM will ?certainly introduce? faster versions of the 604e during 1997 but any price cuts were not imminent. That will happen in the first half, he said. ?I?m sure we?ll make price cuts in certain areas,? he admitted. He said that memory prices were certain to fall on many RS machines because of the general cuts in the industry.
