Cisco-only distributor RBR Networks is changing its name to Comstor to reflect its parent company's aim to be seen as a global force.
Datatec, the South African parent company of RBR, said today that it will rebrand its businesses across all its worldwide operations. Comstor will be its Cisco arm and Datatec's other company, Westcon Group, will be the name for its broadline distribution business.
Comstor marketing director Paul Cunningham told vnunet.com: "We want to build a global brand and global business."
One of the first initiatives under the new brand will see Comstor launch a website using Cisco's Network Product Marketplace for Resellers. This is a standard interface for distributors into Cisco's product catalogue. Comstor said it is the first European distributor to develop the site with Cisco.
Cunningham conceded that there are some resellers who do not buy online because they believe they can get a better deal from telephone sales. "There will be parity on the website and direct pricing," he said.
Comstor will increase its technical support team to deal with online sales. The distributor has created a support group of engineers that can join resellers on bids for business, as well as providing pre and post-technical support.
