BT said it has signed up 42 suppliers to its online trading community Marketsite, which went live today.
BT Marketsite powered by Commerce One is an electronic marketplace for UK business incorporating both suppliers and buyers. It automates the procurement process for indirect goods such as office supplies, travel and maintenance services, through the use of Internet technology.
BT claims this automation can reduce order costs by up to 90 per cent because by assigning purchasing power to end users, goods can be sourced, ordered and even authorised completely electronically.
Suppliers include IT companies Compel and Comptuacenter and media marketing firm Orion, while Boots and BT signed up as buyers in March.
Eric Guilloteau, general manager of BT's ebusiness division, said: "The supply chain plays the most important part in ecommerce as an electronic procurement solution can revolutionise they way in which businesses compete."
