A last-minute technical hitch has delayed the launch of online bookmaker Blue Square's new Littlewoods football pools service.
"There was a risk that someone could have made an entry on the Blue Square site and it would not have been entered into the pool [at Littlewoods]," a spokesman for Blue Square told The Daily Telegraph.
Such an entry would be void and may have left Blue Square open to legal action.
A computer system is now being built to ensure that entries are instantly entered into the Littlewoods computer system, but no timescale has been given for its launch.
The agreement between Littlewoods and Blue Square was to be the first time Littlewoods had licensed its pools game to another betting company as part of its efforts to boost participation in the football pools.
