Not content with leading the online book war, Amazon.com is to create a online shopping centre for the Christmas rush.
Today the company opened a US-only video store holding 60,000 videos and 2,000 DVDs, plus a holiday gift store, to add to its successful book and music shop.
The gift store includes personal electronics, games, gadgets, and toys to capitalise on the Xmas shopping frenzy.
Amazon.com chief Jeff Bezos, said the new stores are in response to customer demand. "Together, these stores are exactly what our customers have told us they want. It?s one destination where shoppers can meet all of their gift-giving needs at any time of day at one convenient location,? he enthused.
As the online book market hots up with recent deals, Amazon will use the addition of videos and gifts to increase sales by cross marketing the products. Through recent acquisitions (Newswire, 4 August) the company can also offer comparison shopping with its Gift Matcher to help to find the perfect gift for that troublesome friend or relative.
