Networking vendor Alcatel is setting up a new incentive scheme that rewards resellers and their employees for sales of its products.
Alcatel business partners can accumulate points by selling Alcatel products through the Vitalize programme. The points can be saved in an online bank and exchanged for prizes, including technical equipment.
At a company level the points can be used to achieve discounts or go towards accreditation payment.
"Alcatel is committed to its channel and sees this incentive scheme as another way to reward the performance of our indirect sales force," said Richard Pitt, UK area director at Alcatel eBusiness networking activities, in a statement.
Neil Fairbrother, marketing director at Alcatel reseller Mase, explained that incentive schemes are a good thing, providing that the salespeople offer the best products for the customer.
"It's a great way to stimulate demand in the market for a new product, if it provides the benefits the customer needs," he said.
Fairbrother explained that reseller management teams must keep up to date with what vendors are offering salespeople, but warned that these incentives are unlikely to exert undue influence on sales staff.
"The sales team doesn't really decide what products to sell because that is a technical decision when systems are put together," he said.
