Stac has introduced a set of backup and disaster recovery software aimed at exploiting the Internet and Intranets, to erode market share from competitors Cheyenne, Seagate and MacAfee.
The Replica suite of products includes agent technology and will reduce the amount of time spent backing up files in large corporations, according to Tom Toperczer, product manager at Stac US. He said: ?The leader position in the backup market has changed several times in the last 10 years. We believe that the Internet features of our product will give us a lead over our competitors.?
Products in the set include Backup for Netware, an entry level product that includes server backup, and file and volume restore, using a Windows front end.
Stac has also released a cut-down version of Replica, which people can download for nothing from its Web site at http://www.stac.com. Backup for Netware costs #159 while its Intranetwork edition costs #750 for a host server. Stac will also introduce a Windows NT version of the software before summer.
