Mirapoint has launched two Email thin server applicances which it claims are unhackable. The M100 and M1000 were launched last week in the UK, and offer Email services including IMAP4 (Internet Message Access Protocol).
The devices are intended to simplify a company's Email infrastructure, offering quick and easy installation and reduced maintenance.
Both devices use custom-built, industry-standard hardware and an application-specific operating system that removes the risk of outsiders logging into the server. As a dedicated device, it is optimised for messaging services and therefore offers no back doors or weaknesses as found in general purpose operating system software.
The M100 is designed for up to 300 on-site users. The M1000 supports an unlimited number of POP3 users, or up to 2,000 IMAP users. The servers use SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and SSH (Secure Shell) logins for message and administration-level security, and set up and administration can be carried out remotely using a standard browser.
The M100 costs from #9,817. The M1000 costs from #17,150.
