Ingram Micro is to buy a majority interest in German distributor Macrotron from its arch rival Tech Data for $100 million in cash.
Tech Data only bought the controlling stake in Macrotron a year ago, for $35 million in cash and stock, but subsequently purchased a far larger German distributor, Computer 2000. It was expected to divest some smaller holdings in order to satisfy antitrust authorities. Ingram claimed the new purchase put it into the top three distributors in Europe.
