Compaq has launched Speechbot, the world's first site for spoken streamed media on the Internet.
The site, www.compaq.com/speechbot, indexes spoken audio to allow users to pinpoint what they want to listen to rather than have to listen to hours of content.
Speechbot can index some 2000 hours of audio for searching on the site. It uses Compaq Professional Workstations running Microsoft NT for the multimedia crawling and Compaq Proliant for Linux speech recognition. Multimedia search and Web serving is achieved using Compaq's Tru64 Unix running on Alphaservers.
