Tax regulations for friendly societies have been laid down. These update the rules to take account of changes made to the 1998 and 1999 Finance Acts. (Press release, 22 September.) Regulations have also been altered to make amendments to interest-rate regulations that deal with interest charged on late payments on income tax deducted at source by companies. The amendments remove the reduction for tax from the interest-rate formula. (Press release, 22 September.)
