IBM has rebadged the Psion Dacom Gold Card and is to supply it as a communications option for buyers of Thinkpads.
The deal is another shot in the arm for Psion, which last year concluded a worldwide deal to supply Dell with the PC card.
A source close to the company said that negotiations with IBM had been under way for some time and shipments of the product have already begun.
But a representative of Psion Dacom said he was unable to confirm that IBM was taking supplies of the card.
The card IBM announced is a 56Kbps modem unit that includes GSM capability and works with a wide range of handsets including Alcatel, Motorola, Panasonic, Nokia and NEC. Toshiba is also understood to be re-badging the Psion Dacom product.
