Amid rumours that it was about to buy Netscape, Sun published strong third quarter results today.
Revenue was $2.36 billion, up 12 per cent on the same period last year, and net income was $232 million compared to last year?s figure of $197 million (lexcluding a one-time net gain).
Earnings per share were 59 cents a share ? exactly the figure predicted by the consensus analyst estimate from First Call.
In a statement, Sun?s CEO Scott McNealy said he was pleased with overall results. He said demand for the company?s new low end Ultra 5 and Ultra 10 workstations had exceeded expectations.
