T-Mobile UK today kicked off a mobile footy service which delivers UEFA Champions League content and will support the 2004/2005 tournament.
In the absence of a T-Mobile 3G network, the content will be sent as MMS still images or video clips.
The highlights cover a range of match action including goals, penalty misses and game milestones, followed by a summary and additional alerts if the match goes into extra time.
The operator said that it will cover all participating teams and matches played whether featuring Arsenal, Manchester United or Liverpool, or overseas teams such as AC Milan and FC Barcelona.
Football fans can sign up to receive highlights on a 'per-match' basis or follow their favourite team throughout the tournament by selecting a 'per-team' alert which gives all highlights of the chosen team.
Brian McBride, managing director at T-Mobile UK, said: "The UEFA Champions League content brings the game alive to football fans on the move, allowing them to view quality highlights and keep fully up-to-date with the latest news."
The service costs £4.50 for the picture alerts package and £5 for the video alerts package. Individual match packages cost £1.50 if receiving picture alerts, and £2.50 if receiving video alerts.
