BT is one of the European telecom operators being considered as a partner in the partial privatisation of Telenor, Norway's entirely state owned telco.
BT and Swedish telco Telia - also state owned - have both recently held talks with the Norwegian government about taking a stake in Telenor, according to reports.
Last February, merger talks between Telia and Telenor, which would have created Scandinavia's largest telco, broke down twice after the companies failed to agree on terms.
