WH Smith has linked up with Axon Group to create a business to business trading portal to bring ecommerce to small independent newsagents.
The venture will enable WH Smith, the leading distributor of newspapers and magazines in the UK, to build a closer relationship with its retailer outlets.
The scheme will initially target 8,000 retail outlets of the 16,000 currently supplied by WH Smith.
Phase one of the portal development has been running live since last year among a group of retailers in the Midlands, ranging from small independent newsagents to a supermarket chain. Results have exceeded expectation, with over 70 per cent of transactions performed online rather than by telephone, according to WH Smith.
