Cognos has announced a tool for incorporating data from SAP applications in warehouses.
The product, called Cognos Accelerator, generates code based on SAP?s ABAP programming language, to extract and transform data from SAP?s R/3 business application and move it into data warehouses and departmental data marts.
Accelerator also takes information from non-SAP data sources and moves it to an open format.
The information can then be analysed by Cognos front end tools such as its Impromptu Query, Powerplay, Scenario and 4Thought.
Cognos boasts that its product offers users the fastest and lowest cost method of creating a data warehouse from SAP information.
Bridget Hayes of Cognos said: "There?s no other product like it and people who do data extractions themselves pay a much higher price for consultants."
The company also plans to release templates for specialised data marts for applications such as profit analysis.
Michael Schroeck, data warehousing managing partner at Price Waterhouse said: "Accelerator is one of the first integrated application suites that addresses the demanding requirements of building end user business intelligence applications in an SAP R/3 environment."
Accelerator comes in two editions. The Suite version includes 75-user licences for Cognos desktop products, including Powerplay Olap (online analytical processing), Impromptu and Scenario for data mining.
The Web edition features 100-user licences for Impromptu Web Query and Powerplay Server Web Edition. Both packages cost $165,000 and include administrative tools. They are expected to ship in April.
