British IT products and services supplier Viglen has beaten US rivals to secure a £6bn contract on Buying Solutions' Commoditised IT Hardware and Software framework agreement.
The multi-million pound government contract should run for four years, and means that Viglen has out-gunned bigger US rivals for a slice of the framework agreement, run by Office of Government Commerce agency Buying Solutions.
Major US heavyweights vie for a place on Buying Solutions' frameworks, and Viglen beat Dell, IBM, Centerprise, NEC, BT, Bytes and XMA. It is now a registered supplier for PCs under Lot 1 Desktop Hardware and some enterprise products under Lot 2 IT Hardware Infrastructure.
"To see off stiff competition is evidence that Viglen is dedicated to the public sector," said Bordan Tkachuk, chief executive at Viglen.
"We support Buying Solutions' goal of achieving 'savings for the nation' as it helps public sector customers maximise their budgets."
Chris Cliffe, senior project manager at Buying Solutions, added: "Following a fully EU-compliant and rigorous procurement process, we are delighted with the quality and variety of suppliers who have been awarded a framework agreement, and are confident that these will provide an excellent service to our public sector customers, helping them to meet their IT procurement needs."
The win for the small UK company comes off the back of the Tory Party's recent Technology Manifesto proposals designed as a catalyst to reinvigorate growth in UK IT providers, offering procurement deals to smaller UK vendors rather than outsourcing to bigger players.
