Company Barclaycard will announce in the next two months plans to service its corporate charge card customers over the Internet.
A spokesperson was quick to point out that the company's plans did not reflect similar projects at Barclaycard, its better-known sister organisation that provides consumer credit cards.
The news emerged as Company Barclaycard, which provides charge card services for corporates and their employees, announced the results of its New Media Survey which quizzed its 100,000-strong client companies on their attitudes to Web sites, ecommerce and email.
The survey found acceptance of the merits of the Internet among its smaller customers. Some 32 per cent of UK business with annual turnover of less than £500,000 believed that Web sites are an effective way to generate sales compared to 17 per cent of big business.
A further 38 per cent of small business said the Web was a secure medium for providing charge/credit card details, compared to 30 per cent of large businesses.
The survey is a new departure for Company Barclaycard which previously conducted travel in business surveys and is indicative of its own change in attitude towards the Internet.
"We've just got the Web site [launched two months ago] up and running and we are now looking at some ecommerce solutions," confirmed the spokesperson.
