In an effort to steal a march on arch-rival Pointcast, Internet push technology vendor Marimba has joined forces with multimedia authoring group DimensionX.
Marimba will bundle DimensionX?s Liquid Motion Pro multimedia animation authoring tool kit with Bongo, its application development tool for Castanet software.
The toolkit will allow non-programmers to create multimedia content through a simple point and click interface and publish it to the Castanet channel, which then 'pushes' it out to customer desktops, claims the company. Castanet has so far trailed push offerings from rival Pointcast largely because creating Castanet channels using the Bongo development environment has involved the tricky business of coding Java.
Liquid Motion Pro will be part of the Widgets menu bar in Bongo and pricing and availability for the bundle will be revealed sometime this quarter.
Current Liquid Motion Pro users can download Castanet functionality free from http://www.dimensionx.com.
