Platinum Technologies claims it will ship the first products integrated into its Poems architecture by the third quarter of this year, over a year later than originally promised.
Andrew Filipowski, the software supplier?s chief executive, originally promised in May 1995 that its disparate system management product line, patched together from over 40 acquisitions, would be integrated under Poems within the year.
The company has now moved a suite of integrated tools into beta test - comprising its Enterprise Performance Managment tools, Autosys scheduling products, Apriori helpdesk and OTS database reorganisation utilities.
The integration of the rest of Platinum?s systems and database management products will follow, but timescales are vague.
Andrew Wright, Platinum Technologies? vice president of northern Europe, said: ?It?s been a long job, a long haul and a difficult job to do because you need to build a messaging and communications layer and integrate it with a console, which is not an insignificant job. We have promised ourselves internally for ages that we?d do it, but it?s not been happening up till now. But, we?ve now moved our product suite into beta and have a couple of sites in Europe.?
He added that the firm was also about to move its second vertical market datamart bundle into beta. Salesadvisor is aimed at consumer goods vendors and is intended to analyse the activities of their salesforces. The first suite was Riskadvisor, aimed at the insurance market.
* Platinum is currently in the process of reducing its workforce by 400 staff, 150 of which will come from its international business. The cuts will come from sales, marketing, business development and research and development. It hopes to cut costs by $40 million to try to move back into profit and will take a one-time charge against second quarter earnings of $40-45 million.
