Oracle is now shipping version 3.0 of its Discoverer query and reporting tool. The offering, as reported by the Newswire on 11 December, 1996, was rewritten to make it easier to use and includes a predictive governor component, in which users are informed when a query is likely to exceed pre-set time or row limits. Users can also build summary tables of data rather than having to query an entire data set. The next version of the tool will be written in Java to enable queries from Web browsers. the administration version of the tool costs $1,995 and the user version, $995.
