Texas Instruments is to make 500 people redundant at a facility in Texas and outsource their jobs to an Asian company, it confirmed last week.
The job cuts, at a factory in Temple, Texas, follow poor third quarter results from TI, but are in an area of its business that is supposed to be growing. TI had blamed the slump in memory prices for forcing it to make 5,000 earlier job cuts, but the workers at Temple make TI?s Travelmate notebooks. Industry sources suggest that Acer will be one of the companies that benefits from the redundancies in the US.
