Apple has poached a senior Compaq executive to run its worldwide manufacturing, distribution and procurement operations.
Timothy Cook was Compaq?s vice president of corporate materials and was in the charge of the company?s stock and procurement. He will join Apple as a senior VP, reporting directly to Apple?s CEO, still presently Steve Jobs.
Before Cook joined Compaq, he was with IBM for 12 years, as director of north American fulfillment and manufacturing.
Jobs said in a formal statement: ?Tim Cook has a rare combination of experience which includes product development, procurement, manufacturing, engineering and operations, logistics, channel configuration and customer services and support.?
The hiring has led to speculation that Jobs may stay on as CEO, despite the frantic hunt to find a replacement for him.
