Tate, which runs four art galleries across the UK, expects to make a quick return on its investment in new content management software.
The Rythmyx 5 content management package provided by Percussion Software has been deployed to allow Tate's online writers and designers to format copy more efficiently for online production.
"We predict we will have full return on investment within a year's cycle of production, and that's a conservative estimate," said Simon Grant, head of information systems at Tate.
"We will make the savings in the time our editors and designers would have spent reformatting copy for the website and tweaking designs. The system of 'decoupled' delivery that the software uses was what we needed to do this."
Decoupled delivery separates content production from delivery and allows users to switch content between web pages without needing to reformat or resize.
Tate employs more than 50 specialist and non-specialist editorial staff across 30 separate web areas.
The first fruit of the project will be a new bimonthly guide to the Tate's galleries in London, Liverpool and St Ives, which house more than 50,000 works of art. Its website had over two million unique users in the past year.
Tate is looking to the site to bring in revenue, as only 60 per cent of its funding comes from government.
